About Us

The Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge, established in 2006, is committed to excellence in teaching, learning, and research. Its mission is to develop scholars in prosthodontics and maxillofacial prosthetics, including dental implants, who make a global impact. The department provides comprehensive services in diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of oral function, focusing on the comfort, appearance, and health of patients with missing or deficient teeth. Specializing in implant, aesthetic, and reconstructive dentistry, the department restores oral function through prostheses and restorations such as complete dentures, crowns, and implant-supported restorations. 
The department focuses not just on patient care, but also gives equal emphasis to innovative teaching methodologies and research.

CDE- ProsthoShreni- Striving for Precision: Basic to Advanced

“ProsthoShreni” focused on the theme “Striving for Precision in Implantology: Basic to Advanced.” The event aimed to enhance skills in implantology, covering both fundamental and advanced techniques. Experts shared insights on achieving precision and excellence in dental implant procedures.

21st IPS PG Convention

The 21st IPS PG Convention was held from April 5th to 7th, 2019. The event brought together postgraduate students and professionals from across the globe in the field of Prosthodontics. It featured scientific sessions, workshops, and discussions on the latest advancements in the discipline.

On September 30th, 2023, World Geriatric Day was celebrated in the village of Padusma. The event focused on promoting the health and well-being of the elderly, with activities including health check-ups, awareness sessions, and community engagement. The celebration emphasized the importance of care and respect for the elderly in society.

The Prosthodontic Day celebration from January 22th to 28th, 2024, highlighted the importance of prosthodontics in dental health. The event featured workshops, awareness drives, expert talks, and fun activities like poster competitions, a selfie zone, and a meme-making competition. The focus was on promoting oral rehabilitation and the broader impact of prosthodontic care on well-being.

PRAGYAAN 2023, the Intercollege Postgraduate Orientation Programme, was hosted by the Indian Prosthodontic Society Gujarat State Branch at Narsinhbhai Patel Dental College & Hospital, Sankalchand Patel University on January 16th and 17th, 2024. The event saw 78 delegates, including faculties and postgraduates from across Gujarat, engaging with 7 eminent speakers over two days. Highlights included lectures on research methodology, innovations in dentistry, and effective seminar presentation skills. The program featured interactive workshops on research validation and critical appraisal. Delegates gained valuable insights into academic ethics, seminar skills, and systematic reviews.

Prosthoश्रेणी on “Revisiting the Art and Science of Complete Denture Prosthodontics,” was held on May 31, 2022, at Narsinhbhai Patel Dental College & Hospital, organized by the Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge in collaboration with IPS Gujarat State Branch. The inaugural ceremony featured Padmashri Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma and other distinguished guests. The event, attended by over 235 delegates, included scientific sessions led by eminent speakers such as Prof. Verma and Dr. Dheeraj Koli. The day-long program concluded with a valedictory function honouring speakers, organizers, and volunteers.

Prostho श्रेणी on “TMDs: A Systematic Approach to Diagnosis and Management,” took place on August 5th and 6th, 2022, organized by the Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge at Narsinhbhai Patel Dental College & Hospital under the IPS Gujarat State Branch. The inauguration was presided over by Dr. V Rangarajan and featured guest speaker Dr. Satish Devarajan, with notable attendees including Shri Prakash Patel (President, SPU)and Dr. D J Shah. The event, attended by 213 delegates including faculty and clinicians, included in-depth lectures and demonstrations on TMJ examination and orofacial pain management, providing attendees with valuable insights and practical knowledge.

Prostho श्रेणी focusing on “Full Mouth Rehabilitation,” was organized by the Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge at Narsinhbhai Patel Dental College & Hospital, Sankalchand Patel University. The program featured Dr. George P Cherukara from the University of Dundee as the guest speaker and was inaugurated by Dr. Vilas Patel, Dr. Anil Managutti, Dr. Sareen Duseja, and all Heads of Departments. With 239 delegates including faculty, clinicians, and students from across Gujarat, the event offered in-depth discussions on Tooth Surface Loss, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment planning. Attendees gained valuable insights and practical takeaways for managing Tooth Surface Loss.

Achievements

This series features lectures, hands-on training, and workshops conducted by renowned experts, enabling participants to stay updated on the latest techniques, materials, and technologies in prosthodontics.

Beyond its academic pursuits, the department has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service. Through its outreach programs, the department has organized numerous free denture camps, screening camps, and awareness camps in nearby villages, aiming to improve the oral health and well-being of the local population. These initiatives have not only benefited the community but also provided valuable practical experience for students and faculty members alike.

Additionally, the department has been enthusiastically celebrating Prosthodontist Week every January, as part of the Prostho community. This annual celebration recognizes the contributions and achievements of prosthodontists, while also promoting awareness about the importance of prosthodontic care.

Furthermore, the department has been actively involved in research and innovation, with a focus on advancing the field of prosthodontics. To this end, the department has applied for various projects funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Student Start-up Innovation Policy (SSIP). These projects aim to explore new technologies, materials, and techniques that can improve patient outcomes and quality of life. By engaging in research and innovation, the department is at the forefront of prosthodontic care, providing students and faculty members with opportunities for growth and development.”
