General surgery is a branch of medicine deals with physical manipulation of bodily structures to diagnose, prevent and cure an aliment.

General surgery is taught to 3rd BDS students with didactic lecture and clinical cases from Nootan hospital. Emphasis is laid on clinical approach to diagnosis and different modalities of surgical management and to improve surgical skills and approach to patient management. The department works in tandem with various dental  specialty like oral and maxillofacial surgery department to manage various complex maxillofacial injuries.
