BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery was started in the year, with teaching and learning programs in Oral & Maxillofacial surgery field for BDS students. The department has a well-planned and spacious clinic to handle the procedures of Exodontia and other Minor Oral Surgical Procedures done under local anesthesia. Undergraduate students are trained in this section for minor oral surgical procedures. 36 fully modernized dental chairs cater to the need for these procedures. Recently another section has been added to the state of the art, fully air-conditioned and compartmentalized clinic comprising of four chairs exclusively for the minor surgical procedures for the staff. Department is actively involved in rendering a variety of treatments ranging from simple extraction of teeth to major surgical procedures. The department is attached to Nootan General Hospital & Research center with well-equipped and sophisticated operation theater, ICU, casualty department, male and female wards.

Faculty of the department is part of the department of Implantology, involved in rehabilitation and reconstruction of the maxillofacial prosthesis.

The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery has been conducting various co-curricular activities to keep the students and academicians updated with the current trends. The department had conducted two CDE programs, OMFS day celebrations, rangoli competition, essay competition, & poster competition.

The faculties, postgraduate & undergraduate students of the department have been awarded several prizes for the best presentations done at various conferences. Dr. Shailesh Memat, Reader of the department was awarded the “National Health Leadership” award for his individual contribution towards the society. Dr. Nirav Patel, a postgraduate student was awarded the 2nd prize in paper presentation at 1st Asian Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery PG Convention. Dr. Dishan, a postgraduate student was awarded the 1st prize in the poster presentation at AOMSI 3rd Annual Conference, Gujarat Chapter. Dr. Dishan, a postgraduate student was awarded the 1st prize in paper presentation at Periodontic pulse – A scientific meet, NPDCH. Dr. Praveen, a postgraduate student was awarded the 1st prize at 39th AOMSI Annual Conference at Goa. Dr. Jigar Tandel, a postgraduate student was awarded the 3rd prize for paper presentation at 5th Annual Conference of AOMSI, Gujarat chapter. Dr. Jigar Patel, a postgraduate student was awarded the prize for best paper presentation at International Congress of Implantology at Chennai.
